Here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions about our support.
If you need any further information, please do get in touch.
Alternatively, see our Guidance Notes - downloadable on our website - which will give you advice and information on making an application.
We welcome applications from local, regional or national organisations, where the beneficiaries are local to the Borough of Bolton and operate within the Trust’s remit to help children and young people, people with disabilities, socially isolated people and elderly people. We aim to support people who are most in need or vulnerable and/or who live in the most disadvantaged areas of the Borough.
Individuals, from the Borough of Bolton, who may need assistance to reach their educational, social, creative or sporting potential are also welcome to apply.
We aim to fund activities that have a direct impact on areas that are within or local to the Borough of Bolton. If local to the Borough, projects should be of benefit to people within the Borough of Bolton.
We welcome applications from local, regional or national organisations whereby the beneficiaries are local to the Bolton Borough.
Whilst we seek to invest in people and groups who need support and/or live in the most disadvantaged areas of the Borough, we also focus some support on the Old Harwood area of Bolton.
We have over the last 10 years, mainly funded small and medium sized projects from £100 upwards.
These have been across a range of activities including:
- Arts/Culture/Music
- Environmental Projects
- Health/Care/Support
- Learning & Development Projects
- Interfaith Activities*
- Social & Community Work
- Sport & Leisure Activities
We are also pleased to consider larger projects, or those delivered across a number of years, usually by invitation.
*In terms of Interfaith activities, we are pleased to consider social, community, sports and welfare/care activities being run by religious organisations and also projects which promote understanding, co-operation and harmony between different faiths and communities. The Trust, however, is NOT able to consider specific religious activities.
Given the limited scale of the funds available annually to the Trust and in common with most grants aimed at benefiting local communities, there are a number of costs which we cannot fund.
These include:
- Loans or interest payments
- Religious or political activities
- Profit making activities
- VAT which you can reclaim
- Statutory Activities
- Drugs or Alcohol
- Cash payments for individual benefit
- Costs that were already paid for before you were awarded the funding by us
- New Buildings or Building Work*
*Whilst we cannot fund building work, we can fund administration and delivery costs, together with materials, equipment and marketing. We could also possibly help with furnishings, fitting out and equipment and improving accessibility to buildings.
Applications are usually for grants of £100 and upwards; although you could apply for more or less.
The average grant awarded over the last few years has been £570.
We have funded and will consider larger projects, or those delivered over a number of years, although this is usually by invitation after an initial proposal and consideration from the Trustees.
Sometimes the Trust will match fund the contributions you have already raised or provide the difference between what you have raised and the total cost. This will be decided on an individual application basis.
Application forms can be downloaded from the PWTB website or you can request one by email from our secretary: secretary@pwtb.org.uk.
All application forms must be filled in electronically and then emailed to the Secretary of the Trust – secretary@pwtb.org.uk
For more information on our Application Process, please see our Applications Page.
Each application is considered by the Trustees on its merits taking into account who benefits from the project, the costs, the availability of match funding and whether it meets the Trust’s charitable purposes.
Please ensure that you complete all the sections on the form. If the Trustees have any further queries on your application prior to the meeting, the Secretary will contact you by email.
Applications will be acknowledged by the Secretary. However, applications will normally only be considered at the Trust meetings which happen a minimum of twice a year.
All applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application. This will usually be within 2 weeks of consideration by the Trust.
When making your application, please ensure that you tell us the most important aspects of your project and costs and about your group. Please see the detailed guidance in Part B of our Guidance Notes, which can be downloaded from this website.
Copies of your most recent accounts or anticipated turnover, expenses and project costs would also be helpful. However, please try and keep this to two sides of A4 paper.
